Team Russia's general manager at the Olympic Games, Vladislav Tretiak, gave an interview to Vitaliy Slavin of SovSport. Tretiak talked about the canceled practice on Monday, seriousness of Sergei Zinoviev's injury and the players' thoughts on a possible Russia-Canada quarterfinal.

RussianHockeyFans.com offers you a translation.

- Why did you cancel a practice on Monday?
Tretiak: "The coaches decided to give the players time to recover. The ice practice was optional and nobody wanted to skate. Everyone went to the gym and rode bikes. By the way, we are not the only team to cancel a practice. The Americans and Swedes also did it."

- But Team Canada practiced. And what an intense practice it was - 10 exercises for 40 minutes!
Tretiak: "Well, Canada lost to the USA one day before, so they had to bring negative emotions down."

- How is Sergei Zinoviev doing? Earlier there was information that the season was over for him.
Tretiak: "Yes, at first the doctors thought that the injury was that serious. However, after another examination the injury was found to be not very serious. On Tuesday he will try to practice with a special corset and then the coaches will decide if he'll play in the quarterfinal. But Sergei himself is eager to hit the ice."

- What did you think when you learned that Russia could face Canada in the quarterfinal?
Tretiak: "I thought that the world would see a battle of giants. That this is our fate, face Canada not in the final, as everyone hoped, but in the quarterfinal. Life is testing us and we have no choice. If we want to win the gold we have to defeat any opponent in the quarterfinal."

- How did the players react?
Tretiak: "With no worry, just like me. It's our fate."

- Have Russia started preparing for the game against Canada already?
Tretiak: "Yes, soon Nabokov and I will study highlights from the Canada-USA game. By the way, Nabokov has already watched the game once again closely."

- So Nabokov will start in the quarterfinal game?
Tretiak: "Yes."

Nabokov Hater

Well......where do I begin? Love Hockey and I Love Russia!!!
But first of all, i think it was a dumb decision to give them a day off before such an important game with Canada. Probably they rode bikes and had a few drinks.....
Number two dumb decision to put Nabokov as a goalee. Did you see what that moron was doing???????? He was always standing almost in the middle of the ice!!!!! Leaving the gates absolutely empty!! He probably forgot that he was a goalee and not a defencer.
And why they did not switch him to Bryzgalov right after the 1st period???????
It was obvious they needed a change immediately.....
Another problem, the players were not playing as a team. Everybody did what they wanted to do. HOCKEY is a team sport!!!!!!!! They need to work together to score!!!
Dissapointment and still can't believe they have embarassed themselves and the country like that!!!!!!

Hey guys, I'm a big hockey fan from Vancouver. I just wanted to say good luck today in the Russia vs Canada game. I have a great respect for Russian hockey. I do hope that Canada wins but if we don't then I'll be cheering for Russia. The two best teams in the world play today and I can't wait to watch. Good luck and thanks for the great number 8, the best player in the world.

I'm optimistic. Those guys are so hungry to show what they're made of.

Like we saw it against Czechs, Ovie & Malkin will be unstoppable.

Now Kovalchuk is the Key. If he's on fire, Team Russia will win, no doubt about it.
I personnaly bet on a terrific Kovalchuk, he has ALWAYS been a great player when the big games are coming.

Guys, can you feel it?

THERE'S A STORM BREWING!

Amen cosgraves......I am a little worried to see what refs we have......but how nice would it be to beat canada and send them home....we need datsyuk to show up from the beginning, he started slow last game.......and Nabby has to have a game for the ages........I think Russia 4-2.....(open net goal)

It really is garbage that Russia has to face Canada, Sweden and probably the USA in order to win gold. Had Canada managed to beat the US I think Russia would have rolled to the gold medal and beat Canada as they choked under the weight of gold medal game at home.

I am still fairly confident that Russia will emerge as the winner tonight but am truly hoping they have enough energy and emotion left to beat Sweden if they do win tonight.

Its very very tough to play what could easily be two gold medal games.... JUST to get to the damn gold medal game. Meanwhile the USA has the easiest road to the gold one could ever imagine and i think will be beaten by whatever team makes it there from the Russian side of the draw.

I am not sure who i blame more, Russia for going to overtime against a loser team or Canada for losing to the Americans. I guess at this point who really cares.

It will take a miracle to win those three straight games..i have faith in Malkin and Ovechkin and Datsyuk... if the im worth more than 100 million dollar man shows up I think there is good chances, but im sure he wont.

enjoy one the biggest games in history boys
